InterContinental Phnom Penh

Offering a selection of rooms, suites and serviced apartments the InterContinental Phnom Penh has been the luxury hotel of choice for business and leisure travellers for over 20 years. Located  on a main thoroughfare with easy links to the airport and the city centre it presents a great option when visiting the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.

We checked in to experience the high levels of service expected from the InterContinental brand and also see how they would cater for us as vegan guests.

After an exhausting day exploring Phnom Penh or a stressful day in the office you can choose to relax next to the large outdoor swimming pool, enjoy a workout in the Fitness Centre or book a treatment at ‘Spa Naviga’ to rejuvenate yourself before heading for dinner.

The Vegan Food:

We dined twice at Club InterContinental which you receive access to if staying in a club level room or with the relevant IHG Reward status. We knew there would be little vegan food on offer so it was down to the staff team to make sure something was created that we could eat.

Quite simply, they excelled themselves.

The staff in the lounge were incredibly understanding and helpful, arranging for one of the chefs to visit us in the lounge and discuss what we could eat. There was a full understanding of what it means to be vegan so we happily discussed our dining options for evening cocktail hour.

We enjoyed healthy and vibrant salads in Club InterContinental

From the buffet the only thing we could eat was salad but there was a good selection of plant based delights, dressings, seeds, nuts, pickles so we could easily create a healthy and vibrant salad.

The chef then prepared a vegan fried rice with crispy tofu and vegetables which was very tasty indeed and this was accompanied by a stir fried mixed vegetable platter with garlic and soya sauce.

The following morning at breakfast there were the usual buffet offerings of fruit, freshly baked breads and tropical fruits all served with your choice of tea or coffee. In addition to the buffet, there were a number of options from the a la carte menu which were easily adapted to ensure they were suitable for vegans.

Again, the Club InterContinental staff excelled themselves and arranged a veritable vegan feast including noodle soup with vegetables, tofu and all the trimmings, delicate and delightful dim sum and a hearty and flavour packed dish of lightly fried wheat noodles, green vegetables and tofu.

The Vegan Essentials:

There were a number of pillows available from the in-room pillow menu that were free from animal products, including an ‘Igusa Pillow’ which was a 100% natural, no chemicals added buckwheat pillow option, however we opted for the ‘Latex Foam Pillow’and enjoyed a great night sleep.

Many people book a room at an InterContinental property to enjoy a warm welcome, first rate service and well appointed rooms and these are qualities we certainly enjoy; another bonus for vegan guests is the opportunity to enjoy vegan friendly Agraria amenities that are found in InterContinental Hotels and Resorts worldwide.

We LOVE Agraria amenities!

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict:

We expected good service and knew we would be able to enjoy Agraria amenities and certainly hoped for some delicious vegan food and all of these were delivered with panache; the vegan food we experienced was very tasty and all of the staff that we encountered were courteous, helpful and extremely friendly meaning we would certainly recommmend the InterContinental Phnom Penh and look forward to returning one day!
