Renaissance Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru is a fast growing city in the South East of Malaysia and provides a key gateway to Singapore.

It is not only home to Legoland and Hello Kitty World, but also the fabulous Renaissance Johor Bahru, a luxury 5 star hotel whose high quality customer service and exquisite vegan food are not to be missed by any traveller in the region; vegan or not.

Loved this pool.

The Vegan Food:

The signature restaurant at The Renaissance Johor Bahru is called ‘BLD’ which stands for ‘Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner’ – we had a chance to try out the vegan options at all of these mealtimes and were seriously impressed.

A huge range of choice; excellent food knowledge; staff willing to make adaptations; supremely tasty vegan creations; the list of things that make being a vegan here thoroughly enjoyable goes on and on.

Breakfast had some great vegan options including traditional rice porridge (congee), fruits and cereals as well as bread with every vegan’s favourite; Marmite.

This great vegan option was also available in the Club Lounge at breakfast too.

Our favourite breakfast choice was the vegan Indian food, which as a result of being totally delicious, comes highly recommended by us.

We love Indian food, we’ve eaten a lot of it during our travels, and we can safely say that the roti, dahl, dosas and coconut chutney were exceptional.

The coconut chutney at Renaissance Johor Bahru was full of spices and totally delicious.

When it comes to dinner, BLD is definitely the place to go for some laid back vegan eating with friends. It was informal, there was lots to choose from and the delicious vegan food just kept on arriving on our table.

We loved that they adapted some of their amazing Italian food for us including a seriously good vegan pizza and a tasty spinach, tomato and garlic spaghetti.

But the Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel has other opportunities to dine well as a vegan too.

After vegan canapés and cocktails in the luxurious Club Lounge, we headed down to the hotel’s fine dining Cantonese restaurant, ‘Wan Li’, where we ate a lovely authentic Cantonese vegan meal (which you can read about here.).

We were also treated to a specially prepared vegan lunch by their multi-award winning Chef Khairuzzaman (read more about our awesome vegan food art adventure here).

The food was outstanding; it not only looked amazing but it tasted amazing too.

Our whole experience at the Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel really shows off the fact that following a vegan lifestyle doesn’t have to mean that you are resigned to a life of salad when eating out.

We were amazed that there was so much great vegan food under one roof! (and all served by some of the friendliest hotel staff we have ever met).

The Vegan Essentials:

There were non-feather pillows available in our room.

The amenities in our room were from the ‘Tokyo Milk’ range – we’ve contacted them to enquire about animal testing and animal derived ingredients so watch this space.

The spa is due to open in 2015 so we weren’t able to see if the products which will be used are vegan.

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict:

Check in here stay in the best luxury hotel in Johor Bahru.

Sleep in a modern comfortable suite,  visit the Club Lounge for vegan cocktails and canapés and swim in the lovely outdoor pool.

Best of all, eat a huge variety of impressive and delicious vegan food at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Enjoy everything from authentic Indian or Cantonese delights to fine dining, vegan ‘food art’ created by one of Malaysia’s top 10 Chefs.

A great vegan friendly, luxury hotel stay!
