Above and Beyond with Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh
We were very excited to find out that Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh had included a selection of dishes featuring the ground breaking and innovative Beyond Meat on their menus. We were even more excited when we had the chance to taste some of these plant based creations during our recent staycation which you can read about here. It was great to stay somewhere that had vegan, veggie and plant based options throughout the hotel and we will be definitely returning to Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh next time we visit Phnom Penh.
This commitment by Hyatt to feature vegan and plant based food on their menus started with Grand Hyatt Singapore, you can read our vegan friendly luxury hotel review here. They were the first hotel in Southeast Asia to offer the Beyond Burger to their customers in 2018, other Hyatt hotels have followed due to the success of the launch and the increasing demand for plant based food. We loved the creative and delicious vegan food during a recent stay at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok who also utilise ‘future foods’ such as Beyond Meat and OmniMeat in their dishes.
The excellent Green Monday initiative has worked tirelessly with hotel and restaurant partners throughout the region to accelerate the plant based movement. Their efforts, initially in Hong Kong have now continued at other key locations in Southeast Asia and beyond. Their partnership with Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, which was featured here by Green Queen, was integral to the Bangkok launch in 2019.
Cambodia isn’t fully on their radar yet, so it’s down to us to shout about just how amazing the vegan and plant based scene is here, although Green Queen did publish an article of ours about chefs who are pioneering vegan friendly cuisine in Siem Reap earlier this year. In the meantime, we can’t get enough of the exciting vegan options in Cambodia, we love when luxury hotels like Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh go above and beyond in their efforts to cater for the ever growing number of plant based food lovers and will do everything we can to support them!
Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh
This brand new luxury property is impressive from the moment you arrive, with the entrance and lobby being a beautifully restored French colonial villa. This traditional villa and been fused perfectly with the brand new, modern and stylish building that forms the main hotel. Contemporary art adorns the walls and the rooms boast all of the amenities that you would expect from this luxury international brand.
The hotel is delightful and we can’t wait to return, but we’re here to talk about the plant based food (which can be enjoyed by hotel residents and non residents alike) from the selection of F&B outlets at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh. They even have a delivery menu for those of you who are living in Phnom Penh and fancy a Beyond Burger or Beyond Meat Lasagna, details of how to order can be found at the end of this post.
Beyond Meat Burger
There’s no better place to start than with their Beyond Burger which is served with French fries, sweet corn chilli relish, tomato and arugula on a soft bun. We enjoyed this for lunch during our staycation and it certainly hit the spot. The sweetcorn chilli relish was a nice addition, with the combination of sweet and spicy working well with the meatiness of the burger. We’ve eaten more than our fair share of Beyond Burgers over the years and the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh version was very good indeed.
Beyond Meat & Mushroom Dumplings
Next up are these Beyond Meat & mushroom dumplings which are insanely delicious. Served in a Sichuan style spicy dressing and topped with spring onions and coriander they are simply divine and we just can’t wait to eat them again! The Beyond Meat and mushroom filling is perfectly seasoned and the dumpling wrappers are soft and light. But it’s the Sichuan sauce that will keep us coming back for more, flavour packed and utterly delightful meaning it was oh so tempting to lick our plates clean!
Spicy Braised Beyond Meat & Eggplant
Rich, indulgent and packed with flavour, this spicy braised Beyond Meat & eggplant is a dish that will leave you very satisfied indeed. The braised Beyond Meat contrasts the succulent eggplant perfectly; the smoked and roasted chillies bring the heat, whilst the spring onion and coriander bring the freshness. Served with a bowl of fragrant jasmine rice, it’s another excellent creation using this ground breaking, future food.
Beyond Meat Lasagna
This final dish is for the veggies only, as the Beyond Meat lasagna at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh is topped with Parmesan cream and shaved Parmesan. It looks great and we love lasagna so would be very excited to try a vegan version, any chance of that happening chef?! Cashew cream and almond ‘Parmesan’ would transform this dish into a dreamy plant based lasagna. Just sayin’…
Even more vegan and plant based delights
During our staycation at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, the team were always happy to adapt existing menu items to ensure they were vegan friendly. Their flexibility and understanding made our stay a memorable one, vegan friends of ours have visited since and also had an amazing time, with the staff team going above and beyond to make their stay special. We loved the vegan labelled snacks in the mini bar and the vegan bathroom amenities from Pharmacopia, whilst the purple dragon fruit ice lollies that we were given at poolside were very welcome indeed!
