Cambodia Vegan Tour

Well, it’s actually happened, and oh boy was it lots of fun, the first ever 14 day Cambodia Vegan Tour. During covid we were approached by the award winning team behind Vegan Travel Asia who asked would we be interested in curating a Cambodia Vegan Tour for them. Having lived in Cambodia for more than 8 years, during which time we’ve explored the country, finding, eating and writing about the best vegan food, it was an offer we could not refuse. So from early 2021 this project has kept us busy, developing existing connections, making new connections and bringing them all together for our maiden Cambodia Vegan Adventure which set off in December 2022.

Vegan Travel Asia

For those of you who don’t know about Vegan Travel Asia by Veg Voyages, they are experts in the region, having delivered immersive vegan tours in Asia since 2004 throughout nine different countries. Their tours are multi layered stories that delve deep in to the history, culture and religion in the countries where they have a presence. Educational journeys that leave the travellers with an understanding as to what makes their chosen country ‘tick’. Working with families, individuals and story tellers they weave their way throughout the country, eating delightful and varied food along the way. And if that’s not enough to make you sit up and take notice of this unique organisation, they donate 50% (yes 50%) of their profits to a variety of grass roots projects in each county. So in addition to vegan travel via story telling, they really make a difference by supporting worthwhile organisations and individuals.

Phnom Penh, Battambang and Siem Reap

Our 14 day Cambodia Vegan Tour saw us spend time in a trio of vastly different towns, Phnom Penh, Battambang and Siem Reap, the only similarities being the river at each cities heart, and the warm and welcoming Khmer residents. In addition to exploring these three locations, we spent time with the excellent Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary, a couple of hours north of Siem Reap, near the Thai border. We were joined by fellow travellers from the United States, Canada and Australia, who embraced our story and made it their own. They kept an open mind, opened their hearts and made new friends along the way, if the guests who join our future tours are anything like those who joined the first, we can’t wait to ‘go again’…

Veg Voyages Foundation

There’s no doubt that we all made a difference through partnering with projects that make a difference both educationally and environmentally, which are both at the core of what Veg Voyages Foundation do. One of our partners in Cambodia is the excellent Shinta Mani Foundation, this partnership saw us install water pumps throughout a village, and also build an English satellite classroom which we will continue to support and fund. We also worked with our friends from Climate Conscious Travel to ensure that we delivered a carbon neutral Cambodia tour, a first for Vegan Travel Asia, and way ahead of the 2025 target when they signed the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism in January 2022. Having realised there is no time to waste, by the end of 2023 all vegan Travel Asia tours will be carbon neutral, after all there is no planet b and we all need to make changes.
