JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong
When checking in to JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong we thought we knew what to expect having stayed at other JW Marriott properties in the region; sophisticated style, modern design and a level of luxury that is synonymous with this 5 star brand. We can happily confirm that our expectations were met on every level but we would have to say that they were exceeded by the extraordinary level of service we received. The staff that we encountered during our stay at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong went above and beyond in every area. Early check in? Check. Room upgrade? Check. Superb vegan food including ‘off menu’ items? Check. Late check out? Check. The hardest thing was leaving, we were made to feel very much at home during our short stay at this luxury Hong Kong hotel.
Everyone wants a Victoria Harbour view when staying at a Hong Kong hotel, it’s the image that you conjure up prior to your stay but of course not everyone can be happy. We were very happy with our Executive Harbour Room as not only did we have a stylish and sophisticated room complete with that desired view but we also were granted access to the Executive Lounge. We enjoyed relaxing, working, drinking and eating in this recently renovated space which is one of the largest lounges we’ve ever seen. It is well worth paying extra for access to this space as the offerings during the day were extensive including a number of vegan options.
The Vegan Food
The staff at the Executive Lounge were super helpful during our short stay and were happy to prepare some special vegan options for us if required. As we were going out for dinner we were more than happy with what was on offer including tasty mini bowls of Tomato Salad and German Potato Salad. There were also vegetable dumplings that were vegan and selection of fruits, salad, olives and pickles meaning you certainly won’t go hungry. They served ice cold Tsingtao and Heineken Beers which are vegan friendly and a Chardonnay and sparking Brut Cuvee from De Bortoli which are both clearly marked as vegan on the labels.
After a good night sleep we were up early and headed to JW Café for breakfast, where again the staff were super helpful in explaining the buffet items that were vegan friendly and also arranging for a couple of ‘off menu’ items to be prepared. Our highlights from the buffet were rice congee with condiments, a toasted bagel with cherry tomatoes, baked beans and spinach hash browns and an English muffin topped with peanut butter, blueberries, sliced almonds, shredded coconut and maple syrup. To be honest, once this was combined with fresh juice, a variety of fruits, tea and coffee we really needed no more. But when the chef brought us steamed vegetarian dumplings and fried tofu with mushrooms and asparagus we of course found room to eat these plant based extras, for research purposes of course!
Upon departure from JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong we were due to fly overnight to London so a light, healthy and nutritious meal was exactly what we craved. Upon request from The Lounge, chef prepared a couple of salads which both looked and tasted delightful. Roasted Japanese pumpkin, beetroot and baby spinach with yuzu dressing was the first offering; sweet pumpkin, earthy beets and a tangy sour yuzu gel was the perfect combination to awaken our taste buds. Next was Quinoa mixed with avocado, sweet juicy mango, cucumber, heirloom tomatoes, topped with micro sprouts and a delicious zesty lemon dressing. Fresh and flavoursome plant based cuisine, packed with goodness. Thank you chef!
The Vegan Essentials
We are big fans of Aromatherapy Associates as they do not test on animals or accept ingredients that have been tested on animals, they do use honey and beeswax in some of their products but not the bathroom amenities at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. There was a pillow menu in our room meaning we were able to select from the 6 aternative options, all of which were vegan friendly and feather free. For those who wish to keep fit whilst in Hong Kong (we were too busy eating) there is a fitness centre that is open 24 hours a day and an outdoor pool which opens from 6am-11pm.
The Vegan Food Quest Verdict
Superb. The property, the service and the food were all excellent at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong meaning we will return for sure. The location is very convenient, being above Pacific Place gives easy access to the MTR and both Hong Kong Park and The Peak tram are just a short walk away. We will be sure to time our return to coincide with the re-opening of Man Ho, the Cantonese fine dining restaurant which has a well earned reputation of being one of the finest restaurants in town.
We were guests of JW Marriott Hong Kong but please rest assured that their generosity in hosting us didn’t influence our views.
