Head to the 5th floor for a true oasis from the bustling streets of Bangkok below. Here you will discover i.sawan Residential Spa & Club which features a freeform swimming pool, 24 hour gym and serene spa with vegan products and treaments to suit all. Did we make the most of all of these features? Unfortunately not, but we did manage to use the pool which was very enjoyable and next time we will be sure to check out the Hatha Yoga classes which are offered. Feeling hungry when after your workout or class? Worry not, Breezaway restaurant is located poolside and as with all restaurants at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok there are plant based options on the menu.

The Vegan Food

Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok have raised the bar amongst luxury hotels in Bangkok for plant based food. Following the lead from Grand Hyatt Singapore they have partnered with the excellent Green Monday initiative to offer plant based and vegan cuisine to their guests. Every single menu includes plant based options and these are wide and varied. You are literally spoiled for choice. During our short stay we did our very best to sample everything but it just wasn’t possible. We tried but we failed, you would need to stay for a week to enjoy all of the plant based delights that Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok has available.

Breakfast at The Dining Room features an a la carte menu and extensive buffet with a number of vegetarian and plant based options which are all clearly labelled. These included an excellent chia banana pudding to which we added, dried strawberries, mixed berry compote, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Healthy and packed with goodness it offered the perfect start to our plant based breakfast at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. From the a la carte menu we enjoyed ‘Crushed avocado, flax seeds, multigrain bread, heirloom tomato’ which was superb. The creamiest of avocado which was seasoned perfectly complimented the earthy bread and tomatoes in a sweet balsamic reduction. Dishes like these for breakfast make us very happy indeed.

Homemade coconut yoghurt anyone? Yes please, we could eat this every day. An injection of sweetness from maple syrup and some fresh berries paired perfectly with the delightful yoghurt. There were Indian dishes on the buffet and a selection of plant based smoothie bowls to choose from on the a la carte menu. The salad bar looked so inviting and offered a number of tasty treats; the hummus, fattoush, babaganoush, salsa and guacamole were all plant based and allowed us to create a super tasty salad platter topped with seeds for that extra protein hit.

Make sure to visit Erawan Bakery for their wide selection of teas and coffees which can all be prepared with almond milk, a plant based sandwich and a trio of decadent plant based smoothies; Strawberry Coconut, Chocolate Granola and Coconut Pandan which was our favourite. They are all made with coconut water, coconut flesh, coconut cream and coconut sugar before being finished with the flavour of your choice. Delicious.

Head back to The Dining Room for Thai, Arabic, Indian and Japanese plant based menu items and it is here that you will also find the Beyond Sausage and the Beyond Burger. Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok serve the sausage with fries, German curry sauce and fried onions. The homemade curry sauce was sweet, spicy and sour creating a great flavour profile in our opinion. The burger comes in a homemade bun with spicy plant based mayo, dairy free cheese from Daiya and som tam (papaya) salad for that Thai twist. It was very good indeed and we loved the spiciness delivered by the mayo and som tam.

You&Mee is the “casual eatery that specialises in street-style Thai cuisine, Asian noodles and snacks” and these included a selection of plant based dishes, many of them featuring OmniMeat. We’ve eaten larb many times, often with tofu but we’ve never eaten ‘Larb Tord OmniMeat’ and it was a simple yet inpired dish. Larb has ground, toasted rice throughout and these savoury and spicy fried bites are also breaded with toasted rice giving them a crunchy texture and nutty flavour, superb. The ‘Phad Krapow OmniMeat’ was also very good with the rich, spicy and slighty sweet gravy working well with the mushrooms, OmniMeat and holy basil. Vegan ‘oyster’ sauce made from shitake mushrooms is used to add depth of flavour and umami to this and other dishes at You&Mee.

The Vegan Essentials

By contacting guest services we were able to select synthetic pillows and duvet for a feather free sleep and it was good to receive a trio of welcome snacks that were all vegan. You will not find any plastic bottles at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok and the same for plastic straws; water is in glass bottles and the straws are from paper which are excellent planet saving initiatives that we love. Bathroom amenities were from Balmain and we are unable to find out if they are tested on animals or contain any animal derived ingredients. The spa uses products from Intraceuticals from Australia which are cruelty free, and Comfort Zone, an Italian company who do not test on animals and their products are suitable for vegans.
