InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

No matter how much you read about the multi award winning InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, your expectations will be surpassed when you arrive at the resort. You really need to see it to believe it, to truly feel the atmosphere and to absorb the scale, the sweeping views of ocean and the untouched rainforest surrounding the grand resort buildings that reach up to ‘Heaven’ from the ‘Sea’.

The design is a masterpiece of creativity that fuses traditional Vietnamese features with modern art in a bold and often light-hearted way. Located on the beautiful Son Tra peninsula, the resort was designed by Bill Bensley, an architect famous for his quirky, imaginative concepts.

Explore the resort and uncover small details after being initially wowed by the many centrepiece features including giant mechanical fans swaying in the Long Bar, the conical ‘floating tables’ in Citron and the vernacular railway that transports guests between each of the four levels named Heaven, Sky, Earth and Sea.

The award winning Harnn Spa is an experience in itself. Begin in the spa reception with a preserved mandarin drink (salty, sweet and aromatic oranges) before being escorted by buggy to the treatment rooms. Arrive at your huge, individual treatment suite and relax during one of the signature treatments; we opted for a 60 minute massage and mini facial which included the use of chilled jade gemstones and we left deciding it was one of our top spa experiences of all time.

The Vegan Food

We took breakfast at Citron and had a spread of fruit, salads and healthy juices to go with the option of traditional pho (veganised) or a more Western style cooked breakfast. On our second day when we had an early checkout and no time for breakfast, the staff made us vegetable fried rice to go, and gave us boxes to fill with fruit, nuts and baguettes; excellent service indeed.

At lunch we took advantage of the Jordanian heritage of the chef at ‘Barefoot’ and feasted on Middle Eastern food that left us full of wanderlust to travel to the region and sample more of this delicious vegan friendly cuisine. We loved that it wasn’t on the menu (just ask in advance) but Chef Osama created a delicious vegan banquet including muhamammara, babaganoush, fatoush and moutabel served with freshly baked breads. Almost full to the brim, another course of spiced yellow rice with fruit and nuts arrived, accompanied by a spicy tomato and garlic sauce, inspired by the traditional Yemeni ‘mandi’.

In the evening we had cocktails and canapés in the Club InterContinental Lounge where the signature ‘Heavenly Fire’ chilli based cocktail accompanied platters of vegan canapés and entertaining conversation from the ever hospitable staff.

For our final meal we dined in La Maison 1888 and ate a gourmet vegan feast lasting over 3 hours; delicious plates of creative plant-based cuisine kept arriving at our table, showcasing different cooking techniques and unique flavour combinations.

The architecture and interior design of La Maison 1888 tells the story of a colonial French Eurasian family and is the perfect home for world renowned 3 Michelin starred chef, Pierre Gagnaire. The service was impeccable, the surroundings were both lavish and full of grandeur but it was the food that stole the show including such delights as Pineapple with Mushroom and Parsnip with Truffle.

After the savoury courses were eaten, the dessert ‘phase’ of the menu began with 4 (yes 4!) vegan desserts coming before a final plate of petit fours.

We left La Maison 1888 stunned by just how good the evening had been, it was a vegan fine-dining experience that every food lover should try at least once, here you can read our full review of La Maison 1888.

The Vegan Essentials

There were feather free pillows available meaning we could easily swap to enjoy a feather free sleep.

The in-room amenities (including a handy take home non-leather travel case) were from luxury US based company Agraria (which we can confirm as both vegan and full of natural plant based ingredients) and luxury spa brand Harnn which we understand are 100% plant-based but are awaiting confirmation as to whether the company tests on animals.

The signature Harnn spa had plenty of vegan treatments available and is definitely a ‘not to be missed’ experience whilst staying at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.
