Anantara Hoi An Resort
Located right on the riverside, just a short walk from the UNESCO World Heritage listed Hoi An Ancient Town, Anantara Hoi An Resort was our home away from home during a recent visit to Hoi An. As long time fans of Anantara throughout the region, this was our first stay at this boutique luxury property, having previously only dined at Art Space during a past trip to Hoi An, where the vegan options made us keen to return. It is hard not to be impressed on arrival, not only by the warm and hospitable welcome, but by the resort gardens, which are beautifully kept and offer wonderful river views from every corner. With 92 rooms and suites and three restaurants to choose from, there is something to suit everyone when staying here. Combined with direct riverside access, allowing for a serene promenade walk straight into the Old Town, this makes it an excellent choice.

Our suite at Anantara Hoi An Resort
Our stay coincided with the launch of 19 newly renovated river facing suites located on the ground and first floors at Anantara Hoi An Resort, and we were lucky enough to stay in one of them. Our Premium River Suite was on the first floor, where the river views were truly special from both the suite and the private outdoor seating area. This unique setting made it feel one of a kind, leaving us suitably impressed. The brand new interior featured a subtle blend of French colonial and traditional Asian styles, with statement pieces including lacquered furniture and freestanding vanity stations, which we loved. Each element was carefully considered and worked well together to create the perfect home for a few days and a very enjoyable stay.

The vegan food at Anantara Hoi An Resort
Breakfast each day at Anantara Hoi An Resort is served at Lanterns, and in addition to the buffet there is a vegetarian à la carte menu to choose from. Our favourites were the cao lau with brown noodles, eggplant, tofu, herbs and chilli paste, and the mi quang with flat rice noodles, pineapple, herbs, peanut butter and turmeric. Both dishes were full of flavour, light, healthy and nutritious, making for an excellent start to the day. We also enjoyed aloo paratha, vegan banh mi and a vegan burrito from the vegetarian menu, which were all very good, especially when we added extra beans and salad from the buffet.

Lunch at the newly remodelled Art Café at Anantara Hoi An Resort was everything we had hoped for. We were excited to find vegan pizza on the menu here many years ago, so it was very pleasing to see it still available alongside a vegan burger, salads and other dishes that could easily be veganised. We shared the beetroot carpaccio with pickled onions, rocket, pistachio and orange drizzle, swapping the goat’s cheese for avocado and finishing with chilli flakes and balsamic vinaigrette, making for a fresh and healthy al fresco start to lunch. We then enjoyed a plant based vegan burger with spicy avocado, tomato sauce, gherkins and mixed greens, followed by a sourdough vegan pizza topped with green beans, mushrooms, artichokes and cashew nut vegan cheese. This plant based trio made for a perfect lunch and showed how vegan menu options can be both exciting and satisfying.

We also enjoyed lunch at Hoi An Riverside at Anantara Hoi An Resort, which, as you might expect, offers riverside views that are both unique and enviable. Being able to dine this close to the river while still only a few minutes from the Ancient Town is a real highlight of staying here. In line with the resort’s vegan friendly approach to dining, there is a dedicated vegan section on the menu with plant based adaptations of local favourites. We started with tofu skin salad and mushroom laab, followed by a shared grilled eggplant and Hue pancake. Both starters were excellent, making it difficult to choose a favourite, while the eggplant stood out for its perfectly cooked texture and flavourful Phang Nga green pepper sauce, with added crunch from crispy shallots. The Hue pancake was also very good, filled with tofu and vegetables, served with a lightly pickled slaw and herb salad, then rolled and dipped in a soy and chilli sauce.

The vegan essentials at Anantara Hoi An Resort
As with all Anantara Hotels & Resorts properties, bathroom amenities were provided in ceramic dispensers and drinking water in refillable glass bottles, helping to reduce reliance on single use plastics in the hospitality industry. The riverside pool and adjacent gym offered space to relax, recharge and rejuvenate, while the Anantara Spa provided a wonderful oasis and the perfect way to end the day. Our couples Anantara Signature Treatment was exactly what was needed after a long day of travel, and our therapists were both friendly and professional.

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict
We often talk of enviable and unique locations when it comes to hotels and resorts we have visited, but Anantara Hoi An Resort epitomises that phrase and then some. Since opening it has commanded an absolute prime location in Hoi An and that will never be challenged, which makes it truly enviable and absolutely unique. Combine this with the wonderful staff team, serene spa and vegan options throughout then you got yourself what can only be considered as a very vegan friendly luxury resort. If you’re lucky enough to stay in one of the brand new river facing suites then you’re going to enhance your stay further. Highly recommended.
