Six Senses Fort Barwara
From the moment we arrived at Six Senses Fort Barwara, the presence of this magnificent fort was impossible to ignore. The 14th century hilltop stronghold, with towering gates and ancient courtyards, immediately set the scene for a very special stay. Nearly forty percent of the original fort remains, giving you a tangible sense of history, whilst the modern additions feel carefully woven into the old stones rather than imposed. The verdant countryside, rolling hills and surrounding villages stretch as far as the eye can see, making the location feel private yet full of life.

From walking through the impressive lobby of Six Senses Fort Barwara (where we received a unique welcome blessing) to marvelling at the rooftop domes and far reaching vistas en route to our suite, we felt both the grandeur of the past and the comfort of contemporary luxury. The intricate architectural details on show at every turn and the modern and stylish features throughout show this is a luxury property that has been created with care and imagination, a subtle blend of old and new that creates something truly unique. Six Senses Fort Barwara quickly becomes a destination that will live in your memories for a very long time.

Our Sanctuary Suite at Six Senses Fort Barwara was exactly that, a true sanctuary where we felt immediately at home. The carved inner window frames gave us glimpses of the ancient fort walls, creating a feeling of peering into history while remaining within the modern and comfortable suite. The window seat became our favourite spot for morning tea or an evening hibiscus floral brew, the stone bath was indulgent and the Six Senses bed (complete with luxury cotton bedding) provided some of the best sleep we’ve had in months. The little touches made all the difference, regular deliveries of vegan snacks, protein bars, and herbal tea blends kept us fuelled, whilst the combination of historical charm and modern design features made the suite feel both grand and luxurious in equal measures.

The Vegan Food at Six Senses Fort Barwara
The vegan food at Six Senses Fort Barwara was an experience in itself. We headed to Cortile for lunch on our arrival day, where the sourdough bruschetta with pea guacamole, beetroot orange smash and dukkah was a fresh and flavourful start that we enjoyed very much after our long drive from Jaipur. Cortile (meaning open air courtyard) allows for al fresco dining if preferred which we most certainly did. Our lunch continued with a super grain and protein packed salad of quinoa, amaranth and almonds; dressed with kombucha this nutritious dish was light but filling. This was the perfect start to our culinary adventures at Six Senses Fort Barwara.

Breakfasts included smoothie bowls and chia coconut puddings, also the classic Indian breakfast trio of dosa, idli and puri all served with chutneys and curries. Poolside dinner in the evening saw us enjoy a mezze selection with hummus, babaganoush, tabbouleh and mini pittas, alongside falafels with tahini dressing. The culinary highlight from our stay was an off-menu thali created by Chef Charul on our final night. Our plant based platter of exciting creations and bold flavours contained masala onion, garlic chutney, quinoa shami, veggie sheesh kebabs and dal tadka to name just a few of the inclusions that made for a feast that was traditional yet fully plant based. A divine date and coconut dessert with pistachios provided the sweet finish. Each dish reflected care and a deep understanding of vegan cooking, all beautifully presented and all so delicious. As Six Senses continue to develop their vegan and plant based food at each of their resorts, this was an excellent example of how their ‘Eat with Six Senses’ concept can easily be ‘Eat (vegan) with Six Senses’.

The Vegan Food Quest Essentials
Sustainability and wellness are at the heart of the Six Senses philosophy, and Fort Barwara is no exception. We spent time at Earth Lab, meeting the sustainability manager and learning about how the use of biofuel and solar power are reducing their environmental impact, also about the extensive recycling and upcycling initiatives at Six Senses Fort Barwara. Guests can join workshops at Earth Lab during their stay, making natural lip balm, toothpaste and mosquito repellent, all without the nasty chemicals that are normally in each of these products.

The courtyard pool, surrounded by grand pillars, is a perfect spot to unwind, whilst the spa pool and wellness programmes ensure that every aspect of your stay contributes to a mindful and wellness driven experience. For a true sense of relaxation and rejuvenation we enjoyed a deeply relaxing aromatherapy couples massage during our visit to Six Senses Spa, with soothing teas served in the ancient courtyard afterwards. As expected, there were recyclable bathroom amenities, refillable glass water bottles and thoughtful vegan friendly touches like pillow menus making easy for us to enjoy a feather free sleep.

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict
Six Senses Fort Barwara is unlike any other property we’ve stayed in. This starts with the storied history and grandeur of the fort, but continues throughout the resort. The suite views through the ancient walls, the nutritious and delicious culinary offering, the sublime spa and the sustainability initiatives all come together to create something entirely memorable. For vegan travel lovers seeking history, luxury, creative food and genuine care for the planet, Six Senses Fort Barwara is a resort that delivers on all fronts. We left feeling inspired, relaxed and already dreaming of our next visit.
