Ambong Pool Villas
Ambong Pool Villas in Langkawi is the kind of place that immediately makes you feel at peace. Perched on a forested hillside with panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and distant islands, these private villas offer a unique blend of barefoot luxury and immersive nature. We were warmly welcomed by the team and shown to our one-bedroom pool villa, Kuang, which became our home for a few days of rest and relaxation in tropical paradise. Our villa, Kuang, was impressive from the moment we walked in. The panoramic views from the huge terrace and the private pool were breathtaking, with native wildlife including dusky leaf monkeys, macaques, black giant squirrels, and hornbills visible in the surrounding trees. The bedroom and bathroom offered luxurious comfort with thoughtful amenities. Every evening, the turndown service included traditional Malaysian treats and a different hand-written quote left on a banana leaf, which added a personal and cultural touch to our stay.

The Vegan Food at Ambong Pool Villas
Breakfast is served at either Rimba or Pegaga, the vegan café located at Ambong Rainforest Retreat but available to guests from both Ambong properties. Of course we enjoyed each and every meal during our stay from the exciting and creative menus at Pegaga, but it was good to see they also had a vegetarian menu available at Rimba. Over multiple days, we tried a wide selection from the 100% plant-based menu. Our favourites included the nasi lemak with homemade sambal, creamy mushroom curry and tempeh, and the congee, which was bursting with flavour and better than many vegan versions we’ve tried. The smoothie bowls (especially the chocolate one) were a sweet and nourishing start to the day, while the avocado toast with toasted pumpkin seeds, guacamole, and king oyster mushrooms was both hearty and fresh.

For lunch and dinner, we returned to Pegaga and enjoyed a range of creative and beautifully presented dishes. Highlights included the jungle laksa, masak lemak cili api, sweet potato and pineapple curry, falafels with hummus, and the mushroom tacos. Desserts like the vegan carrot cake with coconut ice cream, and the coconut French toast with gula Melaka drizzle were exceptional, if only we could enjoy vegan desserts like this every day. We didn’t get to try the Pegaga ‘Vegan Degustation Experience’ which is a five-course vegan dinner with wine or juice pairing, but i suppose that’s an excellent reason to return! We did enjoy sunset drinks at Rimba Rooftop on our final evening, the Pineapple Crush and Palm Punch mocktails were the perfect sundowners to sip while enjoying the treetop and ocean views.

Wellness experiences at Ambong Pool Villas
Amaala Spa is located at Ambong Rainforest Retreat but is available to guests at both resorts. We took part in daily group Hatha yoga classes with Ms Sugu, which were both energising and relaxing. Our one hour massages afterwards were expertly delivered and completed a blissful wellness morning. Hotel guests and non-guests alike can also book the ‘Wellness Package’ for just MYR 360 which includes a yoga class, massage, and vegan breakfast, this would be an excellent way to enjoy a generous slice of what is on offer at Pegaga and Amaala.

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict
Ambong Pool Villas is the ultimate destination for a vegan luxury escape in Langkawi. The setting is serene, the service is warm and personal, and the food at Pegaga is outstanding. Whether you’re waking up to panoramic views, spotting wildlife from your private pool, enjoying inspiring yoga classes, or indulging in gourmet plant-based meals, a stay here will leave you refreshed, nourished and keen to return. We certainly are.

We were guests of Ambong Pool Villas but please rest assured that their generosity in hosting us didn’t influence our views.
