Hilton Kuala Lumpur
Hilton Kuala Lumpur is located next to KL Sentral Station making it one of the best locations in the city in terms of arriving from the airport using the KLIA Express in just 28 minutes, with 10 different dining options, a 2 story fitness centre, spa and fantastic 120m ‘freeform’ pool this award winning hotel is a great location to go and relax whilst in Kuala Lumpur. The hotel has over 500 rooms and suites and due to having HHonors Diamond status we were upgraded to a room on the Executive Floor with access to the lounge on the 33rd floor, the Executive Lounge has amazing views over the city (when visibility allows) and an impressive food and drink offering for their non-vegan guests, but how would they cater for a travelling vegan?
The Vegan Food
We didn’t get the choice of food (which was extensive) that everyone else did but there were enough olives, capers, vegetables, nuts and seeds to make an interesting snack plate plus they happily prepared a serving of very fresh delicious vegan sushi. The wine was good and flowing freely making us even more grateful for the sushi. The staff were courteous and helpful when we told them about what it means to be vegan and went out of their way to assist. But the best Vegan Food Quest find came at breakfast, in the shape of dairy free spread which was on offer to everyone as a healthy alternative to butter. Now this might not seem like much to most but in the world of a vegan away from home, finding a dairy free butter replacement (with no hydrogenated fat may I add) is very exciting. Roll out the good old fashioned, European vegan breakfast of jam on toast. Of course, they had a huge variety of other vegan foods to eat with a selection of fruits and a salad bar, also a South Indian food section with a selection of dishes including a tasty chick pea curry .
The Vegan Food Quest Verdict
Great location with fast and simple links to KLIA make this a very good option for those with a flight departure or arrival. We only ate breakfast and enjoyed evening cocktails in the Executive Lounge but on both occasions we were impressed by the staff who went out of their way to ensure we were able to find plant based options. This is certainly a hotel to choose for easy access to the KLIA Ekspres as traffic in Kuala Lumpur is so unpredictable.
