Four Seasons Singapore
Four Seasons Singapore is a luxury five-star hotel right in the centre of Singapore and within easy reach of everywhere you may want to visit, but what would it be like to stay as a vegan guest? Would we feel like we’d missed out on some of their world famous, high quality hospitality or would we be blown away by their service, exquisite food and vegan friendliness? The answer is that we were blown away and totally impressed; read on to see why the Four Seasons Singapore got top marks from the Vegan Food Quest!
The Vegan Food
As soon as we walked into our room, we were greeted by a beautiful platter of juices and crudités, containing varieties of carrots that we’d never even seen before (very exciting for us!) Our mission to find, eat and write about the best vegan food in the world (that’s what the Vegan food Quest is all about!) led us to make a dinner reservation at ‘Jiang Nan Chun’ the Four Season’s amazing Cantonese restaurant. We don’t want to spoil the surprise for you (here you can read the full account of our specially created vegan meal at Jiang Nan Chun) but it was delicious. After dinner, we headed to the Four Seasons’ One-Ninety Bar and Terraza by Javier de las Muelas (master of the award-winning Dry Martini bar in Barcelona). Amazingly our waitress and the bar manager were vegan, so we enjoyed a couple of very fine mojitos to celebrate meeting like-minded people (and chatted vegan stuff too – a rare treat). This was turning out to be a very vegan friendly hotel stay, plus the cocktails were exceptional.
Breakfast was served in the One-Ninety Restaurant and the buffet contained a good range of vegan food for us to eat. From the salad bar, we selected fresh salad leaves and baby spinach as well as vegetables, we added hummus and babaganoush, rich with olive oil, and a selection of nuts and olives, we drank fresh juices and coffee (in beautiful cups) and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. The chef also prepared some vegan congee (delicious) and a some vegetable ‘Bee Hoon’ noodles with sautéed vegetables, the congee came with our favourite choice of toppings, fried shallots, braised peanuts and pickled chillies. The seasoning on the super green vegetable platter was perfect and the vegetables were laden with tasty garlic making them truly wonderful. Everything we ate was fresh, really good quality and most importantly, delicious (oh and 100% plant-based of course!).
The Vegan Essentials
Our room was already prepared with non-feather pillows but also a non-feather duvet, meaning that we had a 100% vegan sleeping experience, we were seriously impressed with this level of service and thoughtfulness. The spa had a range of products from Thèmaè who confirm that they do not use animal testing and a lot of their range is vegan (just look out for ingredients like honey). There were also products from 100% vegan company Sodeshi (even the ink used on the packaging is from vegetable sources). All in all, there was a pretty big opportunity to get some serious vegan pampering and treats scheduled in. The in-room amenities were from luxury brand La Bottega but we were unable to find information about their policy on animal testing and ingredients used.
