Kapuhala Koh Samui

Having first read about Kapuhala when they opened pre-covid we’ve been planning to visit ever since. It’s taken us a while for sure but as the saying goes, ‘it was well worth the wait’. An intimate collection of just nine Tented Villas and Farmhouses each blessed with far reaching views of the Gulf of Thailand are perched on the hillside offering the perfect retreat location. It was easy to while away the hours contemplating life whilst staring out to sea, whilst at the same time day dreaming about what vegan delights awaited when we next headed to the poolside restaurant, which was also blessed with those mesmerising views.

Our tented villa at Kapuhala Koh Samui

Our home for a few days was a luxury Tented Villa that boasted truly mesmerising views from the wraparound decking. Perched on the hillside and accessible by steps that wound their way through the forest, this was no ordinary tent but one that was elegant, spacious and very well appointed. The four poster bed with integral AC unit took centre stage whilst various seating options all enjoyed those Gulf of Thailand vistas. The bathroom was equally as spacious with a stand-alone shower as the central feature, with lots of natural light and a gentle breeze from the vents in the canvas. However, despite our tent being both homely and comfortable, it was the decking area where we spent most of our time as the views were simply sublime. From the sun rising out of the ocean at the start of each day, to watching the boats on the horizon and the stars in the sky each night, it was our favourite place for sure.

The vegan food at Kapuhala Koh Samui

Staying at a resort that is 100% vegan is a real treat, meaning no awkward questions and uncertain answers as to whether an item is vegan, instead we can eat everything on offer! Each day a healthy and nutritious breakfast buffet is available poolside with yet more of those stunning seascapes. Plentiful fresh fruits with coconut chia pudding, granola and overnight oats were our starting point each and every day, this alone was a treat. Then we moved onto mini vegan pancakes with maple syrup, nut butter and more tropical fruits. This was our daily staple, but we also enjoyed other dishes including scrambled tofu with vegan sausages, tomatoes, baked beans and home baked bread during our stay. And did somebody say vegan muffins? Yes we did and they were delicious, as were local breakfast options including stir fried veggies, noodles and grilled tofu skewers. We can safely say that breakfast at Kapuhala is a real treat and we woke up each and every day excited for the culinary adventures that awaited us.

Vegan Italian cuisine at Halapua

With Sicilian plant based cuisine being the culinary concept at Halapua we were very excited to experience a slice of Italy in Thailand. We were not disappointed, in fact we were delighted to eat our way through the extensive menu of Italian culinary delights. From polenta chips with white truffle mayonnaise, to delicate ‘polpette’ meatballs made with black bean and walnut served with tomato sauce, we were suitably impressed with the starters. The home made pasta was excellent with our favourite being the ‘Fusilli Alfredo’ and the ‘Spaghetti Ragu Bolognese’. Main courses included pink arancini with beetroot risotto, Kapuhala parmigiana and stuffed peppers that were packed with flavour. For those that drink alcohol, they serve their own vegan moscato all the way from Italy, whilst our plant based dining experience at Halapua was made complete with warm and moist chocolate cake served with chocolate sauce.
