Fusion Resort Phu Quoc

As big fans of Fusion Resorts we were super excited to visit their newest opening, Fusion Resort Phu Quoc. Located on a secluded and pristine private bay in the northwest of the island and boasting a selection of modern and stylish luxury villas, we knew we would be in for a treat with our latest Fusion experience. We love the “breakfast anywhere, anytime” concept, after all isn’t it just great to enjoy a lazy private poolside morning and have your breakfast served at a time of your choice? Also, who wouldn’t fall in love with Fusion’s unique “all-spa inclusive” service meaning you can enjoy unlimited spa treatments during your stay?

Each and every one of the villas at Fusion Resort Phu Quoc are luxuriously appointed with their own private pool including the simply stunning 687 square metre Five Bedroom Grand Beach Villa which has to be seen to be believed. Our open plan One Bedroom Garden Pool Villa offered more than enough space both inside and outside where our pool was set within a verdant garden complete with day bed and swing seats which we just couldn’t get enough of. Back inside, the comfortable bed had non feather, vegan friendly pillows and the wine was also suitable for vegans including an organic Pinot Grigio from Purato and a Syrah from The Winery of Good Hope. What more could we want? Life was somewhat complete with a private pool, a selection of vegan wine with a choice of places to kick back and soak it all up…

Maia Spa Phu Quoc is where things got even more amazing. Despite having experienced the unique “all-spa inclusive” service that is available at all Fusion Resorts before, we had forgotten just how good this really is. Guests are invited to book 2 spa treatments a day from the extensive menu and additional treatments can be enjoyed subject to availability. With a highly trained team of therapists and 26 double treatment rooms this is one serious spa facility where relaxation and pampering gets taken to the next level. During our stay we pedicured, manicured and facialed our way through the menu and these sessions were only interupted by trying each and every massage that was available, some of them more than once, all in the name of research of course. Our favourites were the Thai yoga massage or the signature black pepper massage using fresh pepper straight from the mini pepper plantation within the spa complex.

The Vegan Food

We loved the fact that there was a vegetarian menu available at Fusion Resort Phu Quoc which included vegan options, this could be ordered from either of the restaurants or to your villa. In addition to this, the standard restaurant menus had some vegetarian dishes which were either vegan by default or could be veganised on request. At breakfast, the selection of juice changed daily including coconut water, passion fruit, watermelon, orange and carrot; it was a juice lover’s dream. The buffet offered a large selection of nuts, seeds and dried fruits, muesli and soy milk as well as fresh fruits. There was a full salad bar, the traditional french bread was vegan and the gluten free breads were also suitable for vegans. Upon request, guests can order vegan banh xeo (these were really delicious) and vegan pho, so don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a steaming bowl of pho with rice noodles, mushrooms, vegetables and cubes of fried tofu in a light broth with additional fried onions, lime, extra fresh herbs and chilli added to taste.

The vegan tofu lemongrass banh mi on the vegetarian menu was a great option for lunch next to our private pool. It was packed full of marinated tofu with traditional pickled vegetables and served with fries and salad. Fusion Resort Phu Quoc offer all guests complimentary afternoon tea and not wanting us to miss out they prepared a special vegan offering of lemongrass tofu skewers, mango smoothie bowls and mini toasts topped with the most delicious tofu scramble and avocado. The scramble and avocado on toast was so good that we requested it for breakfast the following day too (which is a definite seal of vegan approval).

For dinner the gazpacho soup was wonderfully refreshing and the perfect start to our meal. Served poured over a flavour packed fresh tomato, cucumber and herb salad with an impressive tuille on top. So pretty but, more importantly, so tasty too. We also ordered fresh spring rolls filled with rice noodles, fresh herbs and tofu which were served with a chilli garlic soy dipping sauce. Other dishes we tried included fried tofu and mushrooms, morning glory sautéed with garlic and soy and soba noodles with miso glazed tofu, but the mezze platter stole the dinner show. A bright pink, beetroot rich dip, zingy tabouleh, babaganough, hummus and another green eggplant dish that we weren’t familiar with but was delicious all the same. Simple and fresh ingredients combined to make a delicious selection of plant based goodness.

The Vegan Essentials

Feather free bedding was available and the bathroom amenities were in refillable and planet friendly containers reducing the use of single use plastic. However, we were unable to confirm if the contents were free from animal derived ingredients so we used our own amenities. There was a welcome fruit platter upon arrival and we loved the fact that there were 2 bottles of vegan friendly wine in the room!

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict

Make a reservation at Fusion Resort Phu Quoc and enjoy the personal service, stylish villas and unlimited spa treatments during your stay. Select from the vegetarian menu to enjoy delicious plant based food and don’t forget to order breakfast next to your private pool at least once for that ultimate laid back and lazy start to the day…
