Here is our Vegan Guide to Prague which will help you on your next vegan travel adventure to the Czech Republic capital. It’s a city where popular things to do involve drinking, eating cream or ice cream filled doughy trdelník and where the cuisine often consists of meat and dumplings. Despite this, it’s actually a really vegan friendly city and the ability to wander for hours marvelling at the buildings, stopping for coffee and snacks as you soak up the beauty of it all makes for an excellent destination. Vegan Restaurants in Prague

Hands down our favourite vegan restaurant in Prague. It’s not in the regular tourist area but don’t miss out on a trip here (we paired it with a walk around to park and a visit to Kraffin). It’s a help yourself and pay by weight set up, with lovely staff and lovely food. Everything was fresh and home cooked. We ate crunchy green salads, jackfruit burgers with a zingy mustard sauce and homemade buns, crunchy fried mushrooms, burritos, falafels, mashed potato, chips, creamy garlic mayo and a creamy red pepper mayo too. We left feeling a bit sad that we might not ever get to be in that homely welcoming delicious space again and so have vowed to return one day. Absolutely must visit. Don’t make excuses and not go.

Located on the Prague castle side of the river (so perfect after visiting there and St. Nicholas’ Church), up twisty spiral staircase, Vegan’s Prague held the place of our favourite restaurant in Prague for a short spell. We’d have definitely gone back if we’d had more time (and there weren’t a zillion other places to eat in Prague). Service was friendly and efficient, all the food we saw others eating looked good and there were local dishes on the menu. Portions were absolutely giant. We had a cucumber and apple salad with yoghurt dressing and dill which was literally these ingredients in a bowl and was exactly what was needed at the time. It was a perfect accompaniment to the rich ‘no-beef’ zucchini lasagne we also ordered. Delicious. We’ve made a note to return one day to eat everything else off the menu..

Around the corner (kind of, loosely speaking) to Sandokan and the park is Kraffin, a clean, white walled, plant adorned (you know the vibe) all vegan bakery and cafe. It’s hard to really put the experience into words but it’s clear that whoever is running Kraffin has an exceptional attention to detail. It’s faultless. The baking is so good there were in the moment checks that it was all vegan. The baking is so good that our very first cruffin (filled with a salted caramel cream) and our other blueberry cream filled pastry were eaten in silence with a sense that something monumental was happening. We’d fly to Prague just to go to Kraffin. So should you.

Palo Verde is a great restaurant in a lovely space, with a good menu and a fully stocked dessert cabinet of dreams. Portions were huge and although the food tended to be a bit on the salty side it was good and especially convenient if staying at the Salvatore Boutique Hotel. The menu changes so don’t get hung up on ordering something you’ve seen on the internet but know that it’s likely there will be something you’ll enjoy. We had hibiscus kombucha, ‘no tuna’ croquettes with some kind of wondrous vegan cream off the tapas menu and a Roasted Carrot and Beetroot Quinoa Salad with Tahini dressing, pomegranate, orange and grapefruit. Something to note, there is no cash accepted at this restaurant so commit this to memory and have your card ready to pay!

This was one of the places we most wanted to visit because as well as being a fully vegan restaurant, it serves local dishes and provides jobs for people who have been homeless or who have served time in prison. It’s a well put together restaurant and they are clearly on a mission to make a better world which is to be absolutely commended. Because of this we’d thoroughly support going there even though it wasn’t our favourite meal of the trip and the service had the effect of making us feel a bit like we were bothering them by trying to eat there. We had smoked duck dumplings on a kind of stewed red cabbage (can only be described as salty, heavy and doughy) and some crispy fried seitan schnitzels with potato salad which was akin to having a huge plate of VFC with a small mountain of creamy potato salad (so bad but so good).

A great option in the old town and the only non-vegan restaurant we ate in during our trip. They have a whole vegan pizza section, a vegan pasta section and even a vegan dessert section. We thought it would be too good to be true and we’d get there only to find out they’d stopped the vegan options or run out of cheese but everything went smoothly and we had two big, delicious, cheesy vegan pizzas to quell our doubts. Honestly they surpassed our expectations. Service was friendly too.

Kolache are traditional Czech sweet doughy pastries, kind of like a flat, sweet bread-like bun filled with fruit, seeds or nuts. Kolacherie have a separate tray of vegan versions of this traditional Czech treat, along with good coffee and a good vibe. It’s not really a place to sit over a long coffee (there is very limited window seating only) but it’s 100% a place for a quick sweet treat and is definitely not to be missed. We tried the poppy seed and plum and were thoroughly impressed.

Head to one of the many branches of Crème de la Crème where all the cones are vegan and there are many vegan options too (all the flavours with the red label). There were sorbets, like the delicious blueberry and lavender and mixed berries with nettle that we tried as well as creamy salted caramel and dark chocolate flavours.

You know you’ve visited a vegan friendly location when you find tasty vegan options at the airport! Natioo has clearly marked vegan options including wraps, salads, cakes and croissants. We had just finished lunch so didn’t have a meal but did buy a couple of slices of the vegan cake to enjoy on our departure flight!

Country Life is a vegan health food store serving sandwiches, salads as cakes and a fully vegan buffet restaurant at the back. The buffet was closing so we had coffee with a white bean pate sandwich with Kimchi and a cheesecake in the health food shop. The cheesecake was heavenly and beautiful and everything a cheesecake should be. The sandwich filled a gap but honestly we wished we’d just eaten 6 slices of the cheesecake instead.

We stayed at Salvatore Boutique Hotel, a mid-range vegan hotel with comfortable rooms and about a 30 minute walk to the old town. It was a great location for being near enough everything we needed and far away enough from the heaving mass of humanity in the old town. As an added bonus, breakfast was served in the renowned vegan restaurant Palo Verde which is located next door. Breakfast favourited included waffles with chocolate hazelnut cream, fruit and whipped cream; Tofu scramble with sausage and sourdough; Avocado on toast with vegan feta and the Kimchi chickpea omelette with crispy fried kale and salad. This was basically everything we ate and we really did love it all.
