Top 10 vegan eats in Sydney

Having explored Southeast Asia for nearly 20 years and lived here for 4 years we have a good understanding of vegan travel in this region, we are currently looking for new countries to visit and Australia is on that list for sure; therefore when Olivia from ‘Great Lost’ asked could she write about her top 10 vegan eats in Sydney we thought it was a perfect way to continue our research!

LENTIL AS ANYTHING
Situated in the heart of Newtown, Lentil as Anything is popular amongst vegans and non-vegans alike. Lentil as Anything provides more than just a regular meal; they are founded on a philosophy of sharing stories, culture, and experience through food. The restaurant has no set prices in order to welcome everyone into their communal eating space; you pay what you feel at the contribution boxes on the way out. The menu does vary week to week, but the breakfast pancakes are worth a shout out.

FUNKY PIES
Funky Pies take the guesswork out of what the ingredients inside a meat pie are, their pies are fast-food done the right way, and they’re vegan! If you’re headed there, the Funky Chunky Pie with shiitake chunks, and the G’day Satay Pie with roasted pumpkin, are favourites of the cafe. Funky Pies takes all the steps to be ecologically friendly, from the sweat-shop free aprons staff uniforms, to the organic and fair-trade coffee.

SADHANA KITCHEN
Sadhana Kitchen is a staple on the vegan food circuit of Sydney, the cafe produces an organic, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and refined sugar free menu. All the dishes at Sadhana Kitchen are plant based, and are simply delicious. The ‘eggs’ benedict is a stand out with two in-house made vegan eggs made with coconut and sweet potato. Even more impressive, Sadhana Kitchen also features Australia’s first raw 7 course degustation menu.

YULLI’S
Although this restaurant-meets-bar is vegetarian, the vegan menu is expansive and impressive. Yulli’s dishes hero the plants used in their cooking. Not only is their food vegetarian or vegan, but their wines and beers are also vegan! Yulli’s features a tapas style menu with small plates made to share, and a funky interior design. The money bags on the menu are definitely worth a try as they pack a punch of flavour, and are filled to the brim!

BODHI
You’d never even think there’d be a thing such as vegan yum cha… but I assure it’s real, and it’s at Bodhi. Bodhi also features a carefully selected wine list that not only compliments their dishes but are either certified organic, biodynamic, or vegan. The lunch menu is served traditional yum cha style, whilst dinner is a la carte. Bodhi’s ethos is simple: enlightened food, good for the body, great for the soul.

EARTH TO TABLE
If you’re looking for a raw vegan cafe, it doesn’t get much better than Earth to Table. Earth to Table boasts a stunning menu, but really it’s their desserts that are the crowd pleasers! With choices like caramel chocolate swirl cheesecake, and chocolate raspberry mousse torte, you get all the indulgence and none of the refined sugar, and none of the guilt. Located in Bondi Junction, it’s only a leisurely stroll away from the white sands of Bondi, perfect for a post meal swim!

GIGI’S PIZZERIA
Some were skeptical of Gigi’s choice to switch to a vegan, plant-based menu a few years, ago but Gigi’s has since proved them wrong. Their pizzas are still incredibly flavoursome and still taste like pizza! Their authenticity stems from their membership and adherence to the traditional regulations of the ‘True Neapolitan Pizza Association.’ The Patate Pizza is definitely worth a try, and why not sip on an aperol spritz like a true Italian.

SOUL BURGER
Since 2015, Soul Burger has made the switch and become wholly plant-based, and they’ve done it well. The most impressive thing about Soul Burger besides the fact that they are delicious and vegan, it also topped PETA’s list of ‘Top 10 Vegan Burgers in Australia‘. Don’t just stop at just the burgers though the fries and coconut shakes are what make the meal complete.

GREEN GOURMET
Another vegan yum cha on this list you may ask?! Of course Green Gourmet is on this list. To really experience what Green Gourmet has to offer come to yum cha lunch during the weekend as this is when the menu’s full range will be out and about on the floor. Be sure to save room for dessert because the dark chocolate brownie with tofu ice cream will leave you wanting more. The menu offers an extensive faux meat range, so would be suitable for everyone!
